The mildly sloping plot in Tripodes area is located just outside Vivlos Village in Naxos, offering impressive unobstructed views to the Aegean Sea. Therefore the house for a creative family consists of two main volumes is designed laterally of a large protected courtyard, all facing the magnificent view to the west. The building development is linear: following a path from the exterior parking space, passing by the guest house, through the courtyard, the main living space and ending at the main house bedrooms.
The white Cycladic volumes of the house, with slightly inclining walls, resemble the traditional ‘pyrgospita’ (castle-houses) in Naxos and blend with the linear stone walls that merge with the landscape.
Functionally each white volume consists of a large open-space living room and kitchen with direct access to both the central yard, protected by the wind, and the front outdoor space featuring lounge areas near the pool. All bedrooms have private verandas and access at the back, gaining independence from the common living areas of the house. Finally a multi-purpose covered space is placed behind the central yard, hosting a space for the artist couple to create.
“the white Cycladic volumes of the house, with slightly inclining walls, resemble the traditional ‘pyrgospita’ (castle-houses) in Naxos and blend with the linear stone walls that merge with the landscape”
“this concept of clear design with Cycladic influences is continued into the interior of the suites by extensive use of custom built-in furniture”
