SIS Cairo

The new SIS International school in the New Capital of Cairo will be a very large school complex, that consists of 13 school years and many common and administrative functions. Essential is to create a functional school design with a clear organization to make sure that the different parts of the school are well integrated, that the pupils can easily find their way and that circulation space is not wasted in the already large building program.

In addition to this, a pleasant school environment is to have an outside space that can be accessible during the year as much as possible, protected from the harsh environment with sunshades and green areas, while at the same time presenting a smaller architectural scale suited for the children that intent to use it.

The exterior of the building is divided into two zones: The open ground floor zone that refers to the childens’ scale and contains green zones and sun shades and the floors of the building that are much more closed where the size of the windows are determined by the sun impact on the facades.
Vertical lines on the facade put the different windows in a organization and colours refer to the desert stone, but are interupted by bright colours, reminiscing a recognizable but contemporary Egyptian look.
