The office GFRA architecture was founded in 2004 by Tasos Gousis, Joost Frijda and Eddie Roberts as a result of many years of cooperation in previous associations where they participated with the major Greek projects of the 2000’s, such as projects for the Olympic Games, the new Athens airport and the Acropolis Museum competition. Joost Frijda is Dutch and has received his degree from the Delft University of Technology, while both Tasos Gousis and Eddie Roberts, who has a Welsh background, are graduates from the NTUA (Athens Polytechnic), just as Fotini Anagnostou who becomes part of the team in 2007.
The multinational background of the team makes them search for new ideas and forms in architecture, to give a ‘European’ spirit to their design. This has been recognized by the numerous publications and participations in events such as the ESO conference, Open House Athens, the biennale of Young Greek Architects and the international Piranesi exhibition. At the same time they have a realistic approach and through close cooperation with the client and the consulting engineers, aim of the office is to maintain the quality of design and technology of architecture to a maximum.
The many specializations of the office include: housing, hotels, education, offices, cinema/theatre, retail, interior design, public urban/green spaces, re-use/restoration etc. Many projects are situated in the Athens region, but work is done all over Greece and abroad. Project responsibility includes both design and supervision, and can lead from the initial concept, through obtaining the building permit, to the possibility to organize the complete construction process.
Το γραφείο GFRA architecture δημιουργείται το 2004 από τους Τάσο Γούση, Joost Frijda και Έντυ Ρόμπερτς. Είναι η συνέχεια της μακρόχρονης συνεργασίας τους σε αρχιτεκτονικά μελετητικά γραφεία, όπου συμμετείχαν στη μελέτη μεγάλων κτιριακών έργων της πρώτης δεκαετίας. Από το 2007 μέλος της ομάδας είναι και η Φωτεινή Αναγνώστου.
Ο διεθνής χαρακτήρας της ομάδας οδηγεί σε διαρκή αναζήτηση νέων ιδεών και μορφών τόσο σε μεγάλης όσο και σε μικρής κλίμακας κτίρια, και στην ανάγκη να δοθεί ένα ‘Ευρωπαϊκό πνεύμα’ στην αρχιτεκτονική. Αυτό αναγνωρίστηκε μέσω των πολλών δημοσιεύσεων, ξένων και ελληνικών, αλλά και των συμμετοχών σε εκθέσεις όπως το συνέδριο ΕΣΩ, Open House Athens, η μπιεννάλε Νέων Ελλήνων Αρχιτεκτόνων και η διεθνής έκθεση Piranesi. Μέσα από μια ρεαλιστική προσέγγιση και στενή συνεργασία με τους σύμβουλους μηχανικούς αλλά δίνοντας επίσης ιδιαίτερη βάση στις επιθυμίες και ανάγκες του πελάτη, στόχο του γραφείου αποτελεί η ανύψωση της ποιότητας σχεδιασμού και τεχνολογίας της αρχιτεκτονικής στο μέγιστο δυνατό βαθμό.
Το ευρύ φάσμα ειδίκευσης του γραφείου, αφορά σε ιδιωτικές κατοικίες, ξενοδοχειακά συγκροτήματα, κτίρια εκπαίδευσης, κτίρια γραφείων, κινηματογράφους, θέατρα, αποκαταστάσεις διατηρητέων κτιρίων, σχεδιασμό δημόσιων υπαίθριων χώρων, κτίρια με εμπορικές χρήσεις, κτίρια αναψυχής κ.α. Το γραφείο εδράζεται στην Αθήνα, αλλά αναλαμβάνει έργα σε όλη την Ελλάδα καθώς και στο εξωτερικό. Ξεκινώντας από την αρχική ιδέα προχωράμε στην ολοκλήρωση της μελέτης και την αδειοδότηση και συνεχίζουμε έχοντας τη δυνατότητα να αναλάβουμε εξ’ολοκλήρου τα στάδια της κατασκευής και την επίβλεψη, με υπευθυνότητα και έμφαση στη λεπτομέρεια.

Tasos Gousis is born in Ioannina, Northern Greece and raised in Athens. After obtaining his architecture degree at the NTUA in 1994, he works for several architectural offices until establishing GFRA with Joost Frijda and Eddie Roberts in 2004.

Joost Frijda

Joost Frijda was born and raised in the Netherlands. He finishes his architecture studies at the Delft University of Technology in 1995, after which he moved to Greece. While working in Athens as an architect, he meets Tasos Gousis and Eddie Roberts with whom he founds GFRA in 2004

Eddie Roberts

Having a Welsh background, Eddie Roberts is born and raised in Athens. He finds his calling in architecture which he studies at the NTUA in Athens. He cooperates with several architectural offices before starting GFRA with Tasos Gousis and Joost Frijda in 2004.

Fotini Anagnostou

Fotini Anagnostou is born in Athens where she studies architecture at the NTUA and completes her studies in 2007. She starts working with GFRA immediately after studying and quickly gained a permanent position in the team.

Orestis Kalonaris

Orestis Kalonaris grows up in Athens, but chooses to study architecture at the University of East London where he obtains his degree in 2013. After collaborations with several offices in Athens, he joins the GFRA team in 2018.

Fotini Iliopoulou

Athenian born Fotini Iliopoulou studies architecture at the University of Thessaly in Volos. Fresh out of university, she joins the GFRA team in 2019.

Melina Piperopoulou

Melina Piperopoulou is born in Athens and studies architecture at the National Technical University. She graduates in 2005 and since then works on a wide range of projects while completing a master’s degree at the Hellenic Open University in Environmental Design of Cities and Buildings. In 2021 she joins GFRA.

Traianos Mpokas

Traianos Mpokas grows up in a rural area near Pella in the North of Greece and completes his architectural studies in 2020 at the University of Thessaly in the city of Volos. In 2022 he joins GFRA.
